Backpacks Full of Possibility

Tools for School Returns

With the new school year approaching, JFSLA’s Community Impact Network (CIN) and Young Leaders are once again preparing for our annual Tools for School initiative, helping ensure that under-resourced children across Los Angeles can start the year feeling confident, prepared, and ready to learn.

This year, CIN and Young Leaders will come together to assemble approximately 500 backpacks filled with brand-new essential school supplies, including crayons, markers, colored pencils, rulers, erasers, pencils, pencil sharpeners, writing paper, binders, notebooks, and highlighters.

These backpacks will be distributed directly to students served by
JFSLA’s SOVA Community Food & Resource Program pantries and
JFS Hope’s domestic violence shelters and services.

These backpacks will be distributed directly to students served by JFSLA’s SOVA Community Food & Resource Program pantries and JFS Hope’s domestic violence shelters and services. Together, these distributions help bring support directly to children and families navigating some of the most challenging circumstances in our community.

For many of these children, a backpack filled with school supplies is more than just the tools they need for the classroom: it is a source of confidence, dignity, and motivation. It sends a powerful message that they are seen, supported, and set up to succeed.

As we prepare for this year’s effort, we’ve been especially moved by the ongoing community support behind Tools for School. It’s incredibly meaningful to see how many people are thinking about these children year-round and choosing to be part of this effort in a tangible way.

We are deeply grateful to our Young Leaders, Community Impact Network, volunteers, and donors who make this program possible every year. Every contribution, whether through donated supplies or support of the Tools for School fund, directly helps equip a child for success and strengthens families across our community.
