What Is Domestic Violence?

Domestic Violence is a pattern of abusive behavior that occurs between intimate partners to gain power or control. It can take the form of physical, sexual, psychological, or economic abuse. It can happen to anyone anywhere no matter their race, religion, age, gender identity, sexual orientation, or economic status.

Domestic Violence Has Many Forms

  • Being frightened by a partner’s temper
  • Being threatened
  • Being verbally abused, criticized, blamed or humiliated
  • Being forced to have sex
  • Feeling isolated, alone or afraid
  • Staying in an abusive relationship because they have nowhere to go
  • Being prevented from seeing friends or relatives
