Community Service for Students

Volunteer at a SOVA location

SOVA operates three storefront food pantries and resource centers and a central warehouse where students (over age 11 on their own, or younger with a parent) can help with stocking shelves, packing bags and sorting food donations. Arrangements can also be made for groups of chaperoned younger children to volunteer.

Food Collection

SOVA depends upon community food collections to provide groceries for the 10,000 people we assist each month. Students (of any age) can organize food drives in their neighborhoods; children can ask the adult in their family to shop for SOVA when shopping for themselves; they can ask a parent to organize a food drive at their place of business; student athletes can organize a food drive through their sports league. Some students ask friends to bring canned food to birthday parties, life cycle celebrations and holiday dinners.

Fund Raising

Students can organize events to benefit SOVA including a bake sale, a car wash, or a dance. They can ask parents, friends and relatives to make a donation to SOVA instead of buying a birthday gift and they can do the same for other people’s birthdays.
