Jewish Family Service of Los Angeles

Volunteer - Food & Hunger

Help JFS to eliminate hunger in our community. JFS strives to address the growing problem of hunger in Los Angeles. Through our SOVA Community Food and Resource Program we provide groceries and other supportive services to individuals and families dealing with issues related to food insecurity. The JFS Hirsh Kosher Kitchen prepares healthy, nutritious, and kosher meals for older adults and their caregivers that are served at 11 neighborhood dining centers placed throughout the city and valley. In addition, hundreds of meals from our kitchen are delivered each week to homebound older and disabled adults.  In crisis situations JFS also provides emergency food vouchers.

Volunteer Opportunities Include:

  • Helping sort food, stock shelves, and pack groceries
  • Providing assistance with data entry of client records
  • Assembling decorative food baskets which are rented by organizations in lieu of floral centerpieces
  • Becoming a resource and information specialist
  • Serving meals to seniors at a dining site
